Course Description:

Overall Course Purpose:

To provide the health care professional with an overview of Addiction as a Co-Morbidity to Disability. Attendees will learn about addiction and its affect on disability and implementing the latest interventions to improve outcomes.

The Course Objectives:

The participants will be able to:

  • Describe the final common pathway for reward and pleasure.
  • Define the terms tolerance, withdrawal and dependence as they relate to drug addiction.
  • Name at least 5 psychopharmacologic interventions used in the treatment of withdrawal and maintenance and their
    mechanisms of action.
  • Identify the symptoms associated with addiction
  • Describe the difference between abuse and addiction.
  • Identify treatment approaches and interventions for recovery from addiction.
  • Describe how a disability and addiction relate.

Registration:

Registration fee includes meal: $65 ARN member, $75 Non-member, $10 nursing student and $60 for 3 or more from the same facility.
